Weekend in Bend

We spent part of Memorial Day weekend in Bend, OR, located on the east side of the Cascades. It is extremely different than where we live, it is in the high mountain desert. Picture the traditional desert with cactus and tumbleweeds, this desert is green, at least for now.

On our way, wwe stopped at a restaurant that was a restaurant AND a bird reservior. It was so interesting, it has been around for decades. It was neat. There were all sorts of quails, wood ducks, roosters....

Our view from the car on our way.
Lucy and brian waiting to play in the back yard. I think the yard needs a little work......actually in the high desert, this is what the ground looks like. Interesting.

FINALLY! Lucy and Brian couldn't resist. We stayed in Sunriver and the river was close to the house we stayed in. Lucy and Brian jumped at the chance to get into the water.
Death Cab for Cutie

Mount Bachelor.

View on our way to hike around Lake Pauline

The trail was snowed in, so no hiking, but once again, open water, Lucy and Brian made a run for it. They were in heaven! This time we took the balls and played ball with them. Brian was so excited he was running around everywhere, swimming, retrieveing. We had a rough time getting them back into the car.

Mike was the handler of all the dogs. Lucy, Brian, Taylor and Sunny were waiting patiently for our hike up a volcanic Butte.

On our way up, we got into the clouds. Looks creepy, but it was neat. All of this rock was one hot molten Lava from the volcano that erupted once. We are hiking up the butte.

View from the lookout of the butte. The Three sisters mountains are this way along with Mount Bachelor.

Hee Haw!

Aye! Aye! Aye!

Mount Jefferson in the middle. It is covered in clouds.

Through the cascades on our way home, we were driving in the clouds!

Have a Happy Long Weekend!

Happy Memorial Day weekend all. Have safe travels and don't blow your budget on gas:) Seriously, the gas prices are absolutely ridiculous.

Last year over Memorial Day, Brian was trying to be so sneaky stealing snacks my mom put out for the deer. He would tip toe quietly over there and dig in. He totally thought he was getting away with it. I guess it adds to his charasmatic personality. We sure love him, even if he is a snack stealer!

Abby and Lucy are sitting together. They are hoping food will come their way.

Lucy's two favorite things (besides me) are ball and water. Here she has a ball in the water. Heaven!

Unseasonably Hot

It has been extremely hot here in Oregon the past few days. It made me think of last July when we took a day trip to the coast to Cannon beach. It was so pretty! I would have really enjoyed spending the weekend at the beach or maybe even the cabin.

There was a pool of water in the middle of the beach (probably left from high tide) and people were going crazy over it-jumping in it, running around. I am unsure at this point if the ocean is really swimmable on this beach, the tide is pretty strong and people have been swept away. Actually the day we were there, someone did get carried out to sea trying to save another person in the water. For now, I will enjoy the ocean from land.

Haystack rock. This rock is a bird sanctuary for many kinds of birds. My camera didn't capture them, but they were flying around everywhere and you could hear them calling. Pretty neat.

A day at the puppy park

Since the weather is starting to act more spring-like, we decided to take Lucy and Brian to one of the many dog parks to play some ball. They had the time of their life! It's nice that we finally have one really close to our home. I think we will frequent it.

Gotta run! This is fun!

I love ball! I love ball! I love ball! I love ball! I love ball!.....I love ball!

Weeee! We feel so free!

And..........done. Time for a break. Lucy never fails to find shade when she needs it. As you know, Lucy and Brian never quit and never want to stop playing ball, this is just intermission for more ball playing to come.

Happy Birthday, Lucy!

Today, Lucy is 5 years old! I guess we can officially say she is now 35 forever...

Here is a picture of Lucy the day we got her.

Puppy in action. She is such a go getter!

She misses having a yard this size and misses playing ball daily. As you know, she loves ball! She instantly retrieved the first attempt-within her first week with us, we learned of her passion for playing ball.
